Brush Cleaning 101

Cleaning your makeup brushes at least once a week keeps them germ free and hygenic, meaning the tools you use on your face will always be sanitary. Using a dirty brush on your face can result in bacteria build up, leaving you with scary results, so it is vital to clean your brushes at least once a week, or a couple of times a month!

If you throw a stone out of the window, it will more often that not hit a brush cleaning product available on the market, so if you're not one to tirelessly stand around washing each brush individually, you might want to opt for something like this.

Personally, I prefer the old school method of cleaning my brushes, mostly because I can get in there and really clean each bristle. I do use a brush cleaner, just not as often.

Steps:

1. Fill a small bowl with baby shampoo, preferably Johnson & Johnson, and warm water. Swirl the water around until it's nice and frothy.

2. Place your brush in the bowl and swirl it around until the color of the water changes. I like to swirl my heavily used brushes for a good 2-3 minutes.

3. After you've swirled about 5 face brushes or ten eye brushes, throw out the water in the bowl and redo step one. Once you've done that, place your brushes in the warm water for about a minute, or less.

4. Wash your brushes with cold water. I like to take my heavily used brushes and squeeze them before washing, just to see if any color is still on the brush. If there is, I apply a dab of shampoo directly onto the brush and wash it gently with my fingers. If not, I go directly to washing the brush with cold water.

Tip: My most used brushes are the liner brushes, so to clean them thoroughly I make sure my hands are very clean, and then apply some shampoo to my palm. Add a drop of warm water and swirl the brush around very  thoroughly leaves them super clean.

5. Reshape the brushes, and leave them to air dry over night.

Enjoy your clean brushes, and the amazing smell they now have!
