Tips On Creating Photography Friendly Makeup!

A while back I went on a double date, and seeing as how it was a special night, I opted for some semi dramatic makeup. I opted for a heavy duty foundation since I knew it was going to be a long night and because I knew it was bound to be hot and humid, I reached for my Revlon Colorstay..a big no no! My little blunder didn't register with me until I reached for my phone to check the pictures taken. I looked ghostly! My foundation had cast a white shadow and left me looking horrible. I since decided that I should write a blog post citing the do's and don'ts when it comes to flash photography.

1. Don't reach for face product that contains SPF. Anything with SPF, like my Colorstay, will usually result in a white cast. Make sure neither your foundation nor your primer contain SPF, while still opting for a comfortable option.

2. Make sure you stay away from shimmery products. Of you must use any, keep it to a minimum. Try to keep your cheeks shimmer free. As far as eyeshadow is concerned, don't go above the lid. Shimmery shades will reflect the light, leaving you with an unflattering look.

3. Take your makeup up a notch, as the camera tends to pick up less. When you amp up the volume, it might look a little dramatic I'm real life, but on camera, it will look just right.

4. Contradicting the previous tip, when it comes to lipstick, keep it nice and light. Dark colors look too harsh on camera. Pick a nice lipstick two shades lighter, and apply it above a same color lip liner.

5. Contour contour contour! Contouring your face makes your features stand out more, and gives it much needed definition. Don't take it over the top, though, as overly contoured faces tend to look muddy. Go for a nice matte bronzer and make sure the shade suits you perfectly. A shade too dark with look muddy and a shade too light won't do it's job. Make sure you blend it perfectly, as unblinded contouring will leave your face looking muddy.

6. As far as lashes go, curl them and apply a healthy does of mascara. If you want, go for eyelashes, they add much needed drama to any look and leave your eyes looking beautiful.

7. Fill in your eyebrows nicely, as I always feel like what ties a look together perfectly are your brows. Try the Anastasia Dip Brow Pomade, one of my absolute favorites.

And don't forget, your makeup is only as pretty as the canvas you're applying it on! Keeping your skin clean and moisturized will result in beautiful makeup. I use my Johnsons daily facial wash, followed by rigorous moisturizing to make sure I'm getting the best out of my 'canvas'.  I also scrub regularly, which keeps my face nice and healthy looking.
